Bereavement services in the UK are often structured around children or older adults, with far less provision specifically designed for those grieving in early adulthood. Yet 77% of UK 18–35-year-olds have experienced bereavement.
Let’s Talk About Loss exists to address this gap and offers peer-led meet-ups in 40 locations across the UK, alongside a blog, campaigns, and events that facilitate open conversations about grief among young adults. In-person Meet-Ups have strong evidence of impact with 95% of survey respondents reported that attending was helpful for their grief. However, large parts of the UK remain beyond practical reach with young people unable to attend due to transport limitations, work/education, or caring responsibilities. Some young people, particularly in the earlier stages of grief, do not feel ready to engage with an in-person group.
Funding from the ALMT will enable Let’s Talk About Loss to pilot an online webinar series open to any 18–35-year-old who has experienced bereavement. The project will consist of five live, themed sessions featuring expert speakers with relevant professional and/or lived experience of bereavement. Sessions will be carefully facilitated to ensure they are safe, accessible, and supported by appropriate signposting. All sessions will be recorded and archived, creating a lasting digital resource that extends the project’s reach and support beyond delivery.
The project is designed as a low-threshold entry point into the wider Let’s Talk About Loss community, building trust, confidence, and familiarity among young people who would not otherwise attend in-person sessions. It offers 120 young people an accessible educational framework for navigating bereavement and for them to feel heard and less alone in their grief.
