ALMT and the Mac Bevan Foundation are helping children to attend school in rural western Kenya, by providing school uniforms, sanitary towels, and counselling. It is a common occurrence in Kenya that families cannot afford the expenses (uniform, sanitary pads, books, and stationery) associated with schooling and therefore children from the poorest backgrounds miss out on the opportunity of receiving free primary school education.
Ace Africa identifies the most needy children, through Ace Child-to-Child (CtC) Clubs, and provides orphans and vulnerable children with the school uniform and sanitary pads they require in order to be allowed to attend school, leading to improved enrolment, attendance and retention in schools as well as improved academic standards.
Through funding from ALMT and the Mac Bevan Foundation, 3,000 girls are being provided with sanitary towels who would otherwise not attend school 1 in every 4 weeks, and 300 vulnerable children are being provided with school uniforms. Such simple items, often taken for granted in the West, are essential in rural Kenya for children to access the education they deserve.
