Responding to Covid-19 - Supporting families during lockdown
Transformation Through Education
Since 2002, Eastside Young Leaders Academy EYLA has been working with disadvantaged children and young people in London susceptible to participating in anti-social behaviour and violent crime. 43% of the young people they work with have been or have a family member or friend who has been the victim of a knife crime, 40% have participated in local gangs and their exposure to alcohol and drugs is all but daily.
With the advent of Coronavirus a catastrophe started to unfold as income strands disappeared and families struggle to cope. EYLA's links in the local community have enabled them to identify families who need support. This project provide food and utility support to targetd families for six weeks ensuring that young people were kept home and fed in line with social distancing guidelines.
This project sits alongside the ALMT funded project looking to reduce knife crime in East London and has been generously supported by both Co-Funders and our Corporate Partner RenaissanceRe
