Asilomar is a demonstration garden located in Kilifi County. It enables the community, including schools, to learn how they can grow nutrient-dense food. The area sees harsh climatic conditions, minimal rainfall and soil quality is poor. This results in one one in every three children stunted – one of the worst rates in Kenya.

Asilomar Foundation and Link International Innovation run organised programmes equipping people with skills to improve their quality of life. This year-long project will improve child nutrition, strengthen youth leadership, and build community resilience to food insecurity and climate change.

Building on the ALMT funded pilot project in 2024, that trained students and established a thriving school garden, this project will deepen impact by training young Permaculture Champions and integrating permaculture into two primary schools. They will mentor pupils, support home gardens, and run community sessions, reaching one one hundred family members.

Teachers at the schools will also receive structured support to embed permaculture into the curriculum, ensuring sustainability and long-lasting benefits for pupils, families and the whole community.
