To improve the well-being and life chances of children, young people and families affected by dislocation, poverty and chronic illness, such as HIV
Co-funding with the ALMT allows individuals, other Trusts and Foundations, and Companies to contribute funds directly to individual, vetted and approved, project partnerships. With fifteen years of experience awarding grants and working in partnership with children’s organisations around the world, the ALMT is best placed to support you in your philanthropy.
There are approximately 50,000 children with special needs in Kosovo. The service provision for children with disabilities in Kosovo is extremely limited and only a small percentage of children with disabilities receive financial assistance.
In response to this desperate need four specialist day care centres have been developed in Prizren, Peja, Gjilan and Ferizaj. The centres teach children vital skills essential to facilitate their integration into the wider community. They serve children with diverse needs, including those diagnosed as having a significant cognitive deficit such as Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy, as well as victims of neglect.
This partnership aims to improve the quality of care provided to circa 350 children annually through the four centres which provide vital psychosocial services and empowering children with disabilities. Activities include counselling, art therapy, music therapy, and therapeutic play aimed at teaching vital life skills. Multi-sensory activities are also organised for children in the ALMT funded multi-sensory rooms which are equipped to encourage the development of core skills and social interaction.
