The ALMT Is working with IntoUniversity on a three year partnership to fund and establish new learning centre in the borough of Brent. IntoUniversity’s vision is to provide a national network of high quality, local learning centres where young people are inspired to achieve. At each local centre IntoUniversity offers an innovative programme that supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration.

IntoUniversity now has 12 learning centres operating across London, Nottingham, and Bristol, and plans to run a network of at least 20 centres by 2017. IntoUniversity is focused on supporting children and young people at risk of educational underachievement and social exclusion, working with them to raise their aspirations and improve their life chances. The majority are from ethnic minority backgrounds and other social groups currently underrepresented in higher education.

The key ingredients of the IntoUniversity service are daily after-school academic support, FOCUS days, mentoring with corporate and undergraduate volunteers and aspirational training courses. IntoUniversity is different because it starts working with children as young as 7 and supports them over the long-term to achieve their goals. By operating from specialist local centres, they offer a multi-stranded service in order to raise the aspirations of each individual child.
