A Little Gesture - Mozambique 2020
Responding to Covid-19 - Digital support for education and health needs
Poverty relief, education, health, infra-structure and community development in the Gaza Province in Mozambique.
Like the rest of the world, during the Coronavirus pandemic, schools in Mozambique have remained closed and the country has faced an extended period of lockdown. A Little Gesture’s mission is to improve the living conditions of underprivileged children in the Province of Gaza, a highly impoverished region in southern Mozambique, through grassroots community projects providing access to food and education.
The lockdown has meant that the A Little Gesture (ALG) team has been stranded at home with little or no access to basic office facilities. This has made it very difficult to deliver any support to families and run existing programmes.
This grant will immediately equip 8 locations with portable laptops, modems and data and benefit 1,438 children daily. Staff will be able to run health and social care initiatives, maintain minimal levels of education support and organise efforts to fight child hunger.
Once lockdown restrictions are relaxed, these laptops will be converted into equipment for the local programmes therefore easing the return to school for the less privileged children in ALG‘s intervention areas and reducing the impact of the lockdown on educational progression. Up-to-date equipment will enable improved educational tools at the ALG pre-schools and afterclass tutoring centres and will therefore have a long-term effect on the quality of education and operations of all ALG projects.
