Steps Worldwide (Steps) is the national charity working for all those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions. Whatever the lower limb condition, whatever the stage of life and whatever the reason, Steps is there for those families.

During the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the ALMT partnered with Steps to enable them to continue to support families across the UK. The support is estimated to last as long as it takes for the NHS services to be restored to the normal pathways.

The project provided families and adults with the latest information from the health professionals on management of lower limb conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic; Provided support to parents who cannot access NHS services during the health crisis; Kept families and adults informed about what treatments have been postponed or cancelled; Relayed information to families from the consultants, surgeons and health professionals that treat the lower limb conditions we focus on; Created webinars with panels of health professionals from all over the UK that allow parents to ask questions about their child’s or their own condition; Made videos and short films about the conditions. Films included a health professionals demonstrating how a parent can help a child’s level of mobility by using specific exercises during COVID-19 pandemic; Relieved pressure on the hospitals and staff during this crisis period as hospital staff are referring and signposting parents to the information on the website.
