Educational enrichment scheme
Maintained and independent schools working in partnership for the benefit of primary school children in the London Borough of Southwark.
Years: 2017, 2018
SCEC enables independent schools to work together in partnership for the benefit of primary school children in Southwark by running three enrichment schemes on Saturday mornings.
The independent schools of the Dulwich Foundation (Alleyn’s School, Dulwich College and James Allen’s Girls’ School – JAGS) provide rent-free accommodation, and pro bono administrative support and facilitation support on Saturdays. SCEC caters for about 160 children annually and employs thirteen specialist/ graduate teachers. Features of the scheme include small class sizes and one to one mentoring. The schools also provide, free of charge, administrative support including running the payroll and a staff presence on Saturdays. These benefits in kind account for more than 50% of the charity’s notional annual expenditure.
