Octavia Appeal - UK
Chairs for parents with sick children
The Octavia Appeal is run through The Friends of Royal Brompton. The Octavia Appeal is specifically to help the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and paediatric ward with specific items.
A relatively large number of twins/multiples have heart or lung problems early on, so it is not unusual for mothers to have one baby in PICU and another healthy child there who needs feeding/holding as well. Parents may sit for long periods of time and it’s vital for both their wellbeing and the recovery of their child to remain comfortable and relaxed during their stay.
The PCIU takes the sickest children in the country, most of which are on life support when they arrive and have become too sick to be cared for at the other more general major hospitals. It is a stressful environment not only for the patients and their parents but also for the medical staff.
The ALMT provided the funds needed for the Octavia Appeal to purchase comfortable chairs for parents and carers.
