Didcot Train - UK - 2020
Youth Champions Participation Programme

Didcot TRAIN exists to improve the life opportunities of children and young people in Didcot and the surrounding areas, especially those who are in need, disadvantaged or vulnerable, by empowering them to make informed decisions, attain stability, and become integrated members of society.
Following the success of the first year, Didcot TRAIN’s Youth Champions’ Participation Programme will continue to build the confidence and skills of 120 young people, empowering them to believe in themselves, make good life choices and interact positively with their community and one another. The project will improve a sense of empowerment, create positive relationships, improve community networks and increase employment and educational participation for all participants.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic Didcot TRAIN has delivered activities online and continued to support young people virtually. This has provided stability for vulnerable young people during a period of great uncertainty. in 2020/21, the project will:
- Deliver 5 Social Action projects which will be delivered and reviewed by children and young people.
- Offer mentoring support to a total of 120 young people (24 will receive one to one mentoring interventions and 96 young people will receive complementary group sessions).
- Provide a social activities programme to build and develop positive peer and community relationships (coordinated with the youth work team) by delivering 10 trips in half terms.
- Run an annual celebration and community awards event, planned, delivered and reviewed by children and young people.
