International School (India) July 2009

At the start of the year a big US Bank and a UK-based charity were unable to come up with funding to complete the building of the English Medium School at our Hebron orphanage. The ALMT plugged the gap with a £40,000 interest-free loan. Funding the English Medium School continues our ongoing commitment and obligation to Hebron.

The English Medium school will have 830 children enroll this acadamic year 2009/10. The students are from the local town and from the Hebron Orphanage. There are 53 staff members including teaching and non-teaching staff working in the school. The classes are from lower kindergarten to Year 10.The concept surrounding the school is to give a better education in English and computer skills to the orphan children and to educate them alongside the local upper caste community.

The hope being that the children grow up together and in some way remove the stigma that caste creates. The near future will see the School become self- sufficient to actually generating income for the Orphanage to run it's operational costs. There are about 80 orphan children studying at the School at present. Last year in their final examinations the Hebron orphans received top quartile ranks.

Sagar Jalli from Hebron writes, "We pay our heartfelt thanks to ALMT for providing the interest free loan to pay the State Bank of India loan which we took for the construction and the completion of the school buildings. With best wishes,Sagar and all the staff at the English medium school."
